WITH reference to housing versus the green belt, when have City of York Council listened to what its citizens have to say? It pays lip service to democracy by saying that consultations will take place, but only go through the motions of listening and acting upon people's opinions.

Developments are mushrooming in unlikely places all over York. Each has supposedly gone through the process of consultation, but no matter what people have said, it seems there has only been one development suspended, in Clifton.

Yes, York councillors are master of the visionary approach, and give expert predictions that York needs to build more and more houses to cater for the needs of its citizens.

We desperately need a council which will look at the environment as a whole, and provide recreational facilities for the new citizens.

The question must be asked - are monetary gains more important than the health and welfare of the citizens of York?
