BRIAN Plummer, the London artist with the Yorkshire Dales studio, is holding an exhibition in the North for the first time in 15 years.

Landscape Dissected, a solo show of acrylic painting on board-relief constructions, is on display at Adze Gallery, Gillygate, York, until November 15.

Adze director David Durham says: "We're delighted to host this solo exhibition. Many of Brian's new paintings and drawings were created in response to the landscape of the Yorkshire Dales, from the artist's barn-studio in Horton-in-Ribblesdale.

"Having lived and worked in the Dales ourselves, we're as excited by his highly individual and analytical representation of the landscape's physical structures - using intricately cut, layered and composed formal elements - as by his painterly expression of place and time."

Plummer was born in the City of London and studied at Hornsea School of Art from 1954 to 1957, and Royal Academy Schools, 1957 to 1960. Initially he focused on urban scenes but during the 1960s he began to explore north western Yorkshire, in particular the Pennine landscape of the Three Peaks. That fascination with Yorkshire continues unabated, leading to his new works, on sale at £350 to £2,000.

Adze Gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 5pm; admission is free.
