COULD Travis play Fibbers in York next March? Or maybe David Gray, Elbow, The Charlatans, Ash, The Polyphonic Spree, Gabrielle, Big Brovaz, Floetry or Badly Drawn Boy.
As part of the Barfly chain, the York music bar is participating in Passport, a project that aims to bring big-name artists 'back to the bars' in a fund-raising exercise for Shelter and War Child.
All these star names have confirmed they will participate in the six nights of charity concerts between March 1 and 6 2004 at Barfly venues with a capacity of 200 to 500 in London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Exeter, Glasgow, Liverpool and York.
Fibbers manager Tim Horsnby is yet to hear which bands will be allocated to York, but the Passport organisers plan to place bands where they have local connections. Ah, in the case of York that means...um..."I'd be happy to settle for Badly Drawn Boy and David Gray," says Tim.
The Passport shows will raise money through a "lottery-style fund-raising text messaging mechanism".
Members of the public will pay £1 to £2 to send a text or make a call to a premium rate number in order to enter a draw to win a pair of tickets to a particular artist's show.
Separately, five pairs of tickets for each show will be auctioned online to the highest bidder via 'ebay' over a two-month period. Further details will follow on dates, participating bands and ticket application.
