COUNCIL chiefs in York are to be asked to give the thumbs up to a cash injection to rebuild a play area gutted by fire.
Emergency funding of £6,000 is set to be approved to help clean up Bell Farm adventure playground, which was set alight last month following a series of vandal attacks.
A report, to go before the council executive on December 16, will request money to demolish remains of a building left unsafe by fire and start the rebuilding process. Council leader Steve Galloway said: "This extra cash is welcome and will enable us to move forward towards getting the site back up and running again.
"The fire left the site in a dangerous condition and this £6,000 is necessary to get it properly cleared.
"Tackling vandalism is a hallmark of Liberal Democrat policy for York.
"We are determined that the actions of a selfish few should not spoil Christmas for the city's children."
