STRIKERS Jon Shaw and Gary Browne have extended their short-term stays at Bootham Crescent.

Shaw has increased his loan spell from Sheffield Wednesday by another two months and Browne has signed another four-week deal.

Irish forward Browne scored twice, once from the penalty spot in yesterday's 4-3 reserve victory over Newcastle United.

He also set up the winning goal for fit-again midfielder Christian Fox with a clever dummy.

Wednesday have agreed to a loan extension for Shaw after increasing their forward options with the signing of Mark Robins.

Midfielder Kane Ashcroft netted the reserves' first goal in yesterday's victory and Steve Downes completed 90 minutes on his return to action but left-back Stephen Baynes was carried off in the first half after a heavy challenge.

England under-20 striker Michael Chopra netted twice for Newcastle.

Baynes was taken to hospital after the game for a scan on his ankle but there was no sign of damage other than bruising.

l TORQUAY, who City face on Saturday, have turned down a bid in the region of £200,000 for 12-goal top scorer David Graham.

Chairman Mike Bateson refused to reveal the identity of the club from a higher division, but confirmed: "I think it was quite a serious offer but it fell short of the value I place on David and so I turned it down.

"I am hoping the fans realise how seriously I take all this and that they show their support for the club in return on Saturday, when we play York at home."
