I write in response to your report 'Bus lane gets the green light at Rawcliffe Bar Park & Ride site' (November 14).

Unnecessary use of the Shipton Road entrance to the Park and Ride site has been going on for almost two years. Now inept council staff and councillors are to waste public money on proposals which do not address the situation.

Apart from the proliferation of signs and confusion, part-time bus lanes are unworkable and unenforceable. A bus lane on the north side of the entrance has been in use since last December and has been totally ignored because buses do not normally approach from the north.

Traffic still enters and leaves the site from the ring road and along Shipton Road, despite the direct access road from the ring-road roundabout. This results in many conflicting movements at the entrance, delays to traffic on the A19, an effect on buses using the site and traffic rat-running down the nearby service road to jump the queue on the A19.

An effective and sensible solution would be to install rising bollards at the entrance exit. This would immediately deal with the situation, giving buses sole use of the old entrance and segregating bus and car movements within the site.
