More than £35,000 of cannabis resin, cannabis bush and 19,000 cigarettes were seized as part of North Yorkshire Police's Operation Delivery.

The crime-combating campaign, which aims to take the "fight" to the doorsteps of offenders, has now seen arrests in Cleveland, Durham, West Yorkshire, Humberside, Northumbria, Lancashire and Strathclyde force areas.

The cannabis haul and suspected illegally-imported cigarettes were uncovered in a raid on a property in the Scarborough area.

In the county's Eastern Area one known offender gave himself up to the police, only to find he was not actually wanted.

In York officers recovered £456 in unpaid fines from two people.

A record 116 suspected lawbreakers were arrested in one day, as officers who normally work behind the scenes swelled the ranks of those working on the campaign.

Deputy Chief Constable Roger Baker said: "Operation Delivery has a long reach and the ongoing success of the operation is spreading the word to those in other counties who plan criminal visits to North Yorkshire.

"Operation Delivery will not be taking a Christmas break. We will continue to hit the lawbreakers hard and often right across North Yorkshire - and beyond."

Operation Delivery, which was launched by Chief Constable Della Cannings in September, has now netted more than 2,600 arrests.

This week's action day's arrests comprised 35 in Western Area, 30 in Central, and 51 in the force's Eastern Area.

Four people were arrested for violent street crimes, including robbery, and two for alleged threats to kill.

A firearm was recovered.

Western Area officers, working with court officials, recovered £2,532 in unpaid fines, while other raids recovered heroin wraps and cannabis plants.

Community beat officers and police community support officers arrested six youths for allegedly causing damage and harassing residents in the Colburn area.

Mr Baker said: "These results are particularly pleasing given the number of staff who have had to be diverted to the double murder investigation in York.

"The operation continues to deliver the goods, and the successes will continue."
