Neil Stephenson, 43, has joined the York office of chartyered surveyors and property consultants Lightly & Lightly, as an architectural technician.
He was previously with Shepherd Design, part of the York-based Shepherd Group.
Mr Stephenson, who lives in Heslington, York, will be responsible for measured surveys and architectural plans for new and refurbished domestic and commercial properties.
His appointment brings the strength of the firm's architectural team, established this summer, to five.
Lightly & Lightly also has offices in Harrogate and Hull.
