YORK-BORN movie legend John Barry has given a seasonal boost to former members of his old Army unit.
A special message from the Oscar-winning composer was one of the highlights at a Christmas lunch for members of the 2nd Battalion Branch of the Green Howards Association.
Mr Barry, whose music has adorned and enhanced movies ranging from Born Free to Dances With Wolves, as well as many of the James Bond films, served in the band of the 2nd Battalion The Green Howards as a National Serviceman in the early 1950s.
He sent his good wishes from New York to his many friends in his old battalion, in time for their lunch on Saturday.
The event, held at the Old Lodge Hotel in Malton, attracted 92 members of the 2nd Battalion. They were all either regular soldiers or National Servicemen who served with the Green Howards between the Second World War and 1956.
The event was organised by chairman, Stan Johnson, creator of Eden Camp, near Malton, and secretary Tom Heron.
