A NEW online "learning environment" whose backers say will revolutionise professional development for England's school leaders is to be launched next month by the National College For School Leadership (NCSL).

Learning Gateway is an online learning system that will give participants in the college's programmes the power to personalise their learning as never before. It will be officially unveiled at the BETT Show at Olympia in London next month.

The system allows users to create their own "learning pathway" to fit around their individual circumstances. It means that they can access learning in their own time, choose activities and content to suit their own learning styles, specific needs and experiences, as well as track and evaluate their progress.

Learning Gateway includes access to e-learning activities and content, a learning management system, needs analysis and evaluation tools, and access to tutors and fellow programme participants through the college's Talk2Learn online community.

Tony Richardson, director of online learning at the college, said Learning Gateway represented "the leading edge in

online learning in the public sector".

"It will give programme participants the ability to customise and personalise their learning to their own needs and style," he said.

"Learning Gateway is more than a technical solution. It's about empowering programme participants to take responsibility for accessing their learning."

Learning Gateway is accessible through the College's website at www.ncsl.org.uk.
