A YORK primary school has been given a national award which recognises its commitment to health.

Clifton Green Primary School has been given the Healthy Schools standard through a project run by the Selby and York Primary Care Trust and City of York Council, in its role as Local Education Authority.

The aim is to help school communities reduce health inequalities, promote social inclusion and raise pupil achievement.

Head teacher Sheila Audsley said: "The school has been working towards this award for three years.

"Over this period of time, we have strengthened our approach to developing the personal, social and health education programme, and now we have a firmly-embedded philosophy from which we can build and develop over the next few years.

"This award is a marvellous achievement for the whole of our school community."
