York City Ladies FC staged a strong comeback but it was not enough to prevent a 4-3 defeat at Grimsby Town LFC.

Playing in dreadful conditions, Grimsby opening the scoring but York levelled through Emma Fawcett and were on top for much of the first half.

Grimsby, playing with the wind in the second half, scored three goals in quick succession soon after the restart.

York fought on, though, and after Grimsby had a player sent off, a Charlie Woodward brace brought City back into it, but there was not time for a leveller.

York City LFC Reserves' poor run continued as they crashed 6-1 at Goole Town LFC.

The hosts scored twice in the first half, with Kate Jackson and Nic Whelan unlucky not to net at the other end. York played better after the break but, despite good defending by Catherine Turner, still fell 4-0 down before scoring themselves as Whelan's cross was left by Tine Bordevich Ballo for winger Nicky Booth to volley home her first City goal.

Things got worse for York, though, as goalkeeper Laura Fortune had to go to hospital after receiving a kick to the head as Goole scored their fifth goal.
