MAKE way for child's play in the boardroom.

The Monkbar Hotel in York, named Conference Venue of the Year in the York Tourism Awards has introduced special toys for business people to play with.

Nothing complicated: Pick up-sticks, Giant Jenga, the tower dismantling game and that limb-plaiting laugh called Twister. And they love it.

June Nelsey, hotel manager, decided to create a special toy cupboard in the hotel's Platinum Suite, which can take 230 delegates.

She explains: "Business delegates playing with these toys revert to childhood for hours.

"But bear in mind childhood is very competitive and so are these games. They also inspire good teamwork.

"I had the idea when watching Jenga bricks being pulled carefully from a tower in a garden barbecue this summer.

"I reckoned that in the setting of a business meeting these games would become educative and hilarious, especially after a couple of glasses of Chardonnay."

The games were brought out by the hotel's conference staff at their Christmas party. "If they were going to recommend these games they had to learn how to play... well, that was their excuse anyway," she said.
