SHOCK exits thundered through the third round of the John Smith's Bitter Cup.

Leading the giant-killing way were division six outfit Albion Vaults who toppled division two visitors Acomb SC 4-1.

Lee Ward gave Albion the lead by scoring from the penalty spot after he was brought down. Rob Butler made it two with a stunning volley and then Andy White ran 70 yards leaving defenders in his wake before slotting home a third. Ward added his second goal before a late reply from Holder.

Fourth division Hambleton went to extra time to oust first division New Earswick thanks to goals from Croad (2), Harris and Abell. Hart, Taylor and Barker netted for Earswick.

In a nine-goal thriller F1 Racing from division six dumped division three side Inland Revenue.

Strikes from Grewer and Yeowart, plus an own goal, put FI 3-0 up. However, the visitors restored parity midway through the second half. A second penalty from Grewer gave the hosts the lead only for Revenue to filch a leveller three minutes from time before Yeowart's 20-yard drive eluded the despairing reach of the Revenue 'keeper in the dying seconds to seal a thrilling conquest.

Also out are holders Nestl Rowntree, who lost 3-2 to Derwent United in extra time. That shock elevated Marcia and Severus SC as joint favourites to lift the trophy.

Severus won 8-1 at Turpin FC with Thurlow grabbing a hat-trick, while ex-York City winger Kieron Darlow was on target five times in Marcia's 9-1 battering of Black Bull.

Ainsty Panthers, meanwhile, moved to second spot in the John Smith's Sunday Morning League first division with a fine 2-1 win at Selby Olympia WMC. Hyde and Moore gave them a 2-0 half-time lead before stubborn defending restricted Selby to a lone Durnin reply.

Two goals from Luke Ibbetson and one for Alan McDonagh helped Volunteers to a 3-1 win over Hounds, while Acomb WMC put some daylight between them and the bottom club with a 2-1 win over Pocklington with goals from Hewitson and Moore. Gibson netted for Pock.

A hat-trick from Matt Fannon helped Wigginton GH seal a 4-2 division two win at Shipton. Tom Coates got the other while Shipton's replies came from a towering Dale header and Hunter.

York Nomads moved up to fourth after an 8-3 win over Five Lions for whom Clarke scored twice.

In division three, Bishopthorpe yielded a 3-0 lead over St Clement's WMC given them by Metcalf, Moore and Broadbent strikes. Late on Stuart Ogden trimmed the deficit, which was then wiped out by a Paul Cheetham brace in the last two minutes.

The division four games between Beeswing and Acomb Celtic and The Plough v Realway Station were abandoned after discovering their changing-rooms at the University had been broken into and belongings stolen.

Barlby Athletic head the fourth division by five after a 3-2 win at Shoulder of Mutton, with Paul Hughes twice on target.

Second half goal power was the preserve of Selby Olympia Reserves, whose entire tally in the 6-0 division five eclipsing of Black Swan came after the interval, Earl notching a hat-trick.

Britannia strengthened their hold on second place with a hard fought 4-2 win at Rumours FC. Nicholls (2), Conway and Sebine got the goals with Smales and Howells replying.

Castle Howard Ox pulled off the result of the day with a 6-3 win at high flying Wilberfoss, Medley and Mangan each netting twice.

The Holmes brothers were at it again as Skelton recorded an 11-4 win over Wanderers in division six. Neale grabbed six goals, Chris two and Liam one with the others coming from Grainger and Wade, Cammidge netting two for Wanderers.

In-form Firkin 103 triumphed 3-2 at Quaker Wood with Neil Little bagging two.
