York City Knights' Challenge Cup opponents, Villeneuve Leopards, hammered unbeaten French Elite One league leaders Pia 41-10 yesterday - with the victory being inspired by former York Wasps schemer Brad Davis.
The French champions had begun the season with three defeats from four games but bounced back to form yesterday as they look to set themselves up for the Challenge Cup third round trip to Huntington Stadium on February 8.
Davis, who became player-coach at Villeneuve after leaving Wakefield in the closed season, scored a try and was named man of the match.
A few tickets remain for the New Year's Eve Party being staged by Knights fans at Huntington Stadium.
Tickets cost £25 and include carved buffet and disco, and there will be a late licence at the bar, with discounts for members. Bar opens at 7.30pm. Call Gary Hall on 01904 634902 for details.
