Matt produces the funniest topical cartoons in Britain today.
They are simple drawings with brilliant one-liner captions. But that's the problem with putting topical pocket cartoons into books.
They are old news.
When I was in my teens the leading pocket cartoonist of the day was the Daily Express's Osbert Lancaster.
Hands up anyone under forty who remembers Osbert Lancaster?
Thought not. But I'll bet you remember the Giles annuals of the same period. Carl Giles was also topical but it was his drawings that were so fascinating. It didn't matter a fig if you knew the stories to which they related, what age you were, or even if you could read English, to enjoy them. Giles' cartoon compilations made ageless books.
Sorry Matt, yours don't - but you'll still sell thousands to Daily Telegraph readers.
