The latest brainwave of City of York Council to charge for evening parking smacks of more expenditure for citizens. Don't councillors think we already pay enough? Council Tax, car tax? I, like many others, prefer to go to the theatre on an evening and sometimes take in a meal. Those who work during the day can't always get to matinee performances, so why should we be penalised yet again?

If councillors didn't claim so much in expenses, perhaps there would be no need to bleed us dry. York TV should introduce a new gameshow and call it: I'm A Liberal Councillor Vote Me Out Of Here!!

...To paraphrase Ann Reid's letter (February 7) about York car parking charges:

We inherited a product where the previous owner had twice introduced excessive increases and produced diminishing sales as a result. (Possibly that was the effect they wanted?)

So to stimulate sales we will put up the price again and charge for fringe benefits. That will really bring them flocking back, Ann.
