CUP glory could be calling for York Under-11 Schoolboys after they stormed through to the quarter-finals of the Yorkshire Cup with a 3-1 win at Wakefield.

Adam Thornton and man-of-the-match Jacob Gore combined well at the forefront of the York attack before Gore fired York into the lead just before half time.

York continued to lay siege to the Wakefield goal in the second half and were denied by the woodwork more than once.

Wakefield equalised against the run of play to set up an interesting final ten minutes but Will Pepper and George Middleton sealed the deserved win with two late goals.

James Edmond produced another composed showing in the York goal, while Chris Bilton once again shone for the visitors.

York travel to Hull on February 28 for their next match.

Players are asked to inform Ian Hutchinson if they will be attending the festival of football at North Tyneside by Sunday.

York U12 Schools had their run in the Michael Dale Trophy ended with the finishing line in sight.

The team crashed out 2-0 to Barnsley in the semi-final despite creating several chances.

Barnsley took the lead just before half time despite a string of good goal-scoring opportunities by York. And in the second half, Barnsley's 'keeper was in sparkling form to deny an equaliser, with other chances falling by the wayside.

With eight minutes to go, York pushed forward in a last effort to nab a goal, but Barnsley hit them on the break to score a second.

York U12s visit Bradford on February 28. Other City boys' teams in action on the 28th are U13s v Derby, U14s v Sheffield and U15s v Sheffield.
