THREE Friesian cows were killed in a barn fire at a York farm last night.

Fire crews from York and Huntington were called to the blaze at Prospect Farm, in Murton Way, Murton, at 9.28.

Ten tonnes of straw, ten tonnes of hay and a tractor were destroyed.

A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said it would return to the farm today to investigate the cause of the fire.

On Thursday, 20 firefighters spent seven hours battling another barn fire at Manor Farm, in Shipton, which destroyed two tractors, two trailors, a crop-sprayer and 70 tonnes of straw.
