GUESS which North Yorkshire PR firm has been chosen by the Royal Entomological Society to publicise National Insect Week next summer? Cicada of course.

The Harrogate PR firm takes its name from the insect which pulses out its all-pervasive rhythmic chirrup to the world.

Cicada's managing director Di Burton has the task of pulsing out the message that insects should be appreciated for their value to the eco-system, and the vital role they play in our health, agriculture and the environment.

The Royal Entomological Society's National Insect Week, which will run from June 14 to 20, is a chance to correct the public's misconception of insects.

Di said: "Celebs in the jungle may recoil from witchety grubs for supper and baths full of cockroaches, but the more you learn about insects, the more fascinating they are."

National Insect Week will feature events, exhibitions, and an open-to-all insect survey through an interactive website. Fact packs are available for schools and groups to encourage them to join in. The National History Museum will be hosting the launch, and events will take place at other national museums, libraries, research institutes and gardens nationwide.

Cicada also secured sponsorship of National Insect Week from Castle Cement.
