How can you follow Best Mate's historic third successive Gold Cup win at Cheltenham yesterday, which brought the house down as the three-day Festival climaxed in unforgettable style.

Racing tomorrow will seem a little tame by comparison, but with the £100,000 Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter and the £75,000 Winter Derby at Lingfield, there's nothing light about the prize money on offer.

Dealing with the Flat action first, The Littlewoods Bet Direct Winter Derby has attracted 14 runners.

Grand Passion comes into the race with the right credentials, having recently won the Winter Derby trial, a race also landed last season by Parasol before his success in the Winter Derby proper.

Trained by Geoff Wragg and the mount of Darryll Holland, Grand Passion has what it takes to lift this prize. Blue Sky Thinking, trained at Middleham by Karl Burke, may give him most to do.

Frankie Dettori will be among the star attractions at Lingfield. Fresh in from Dubai, Dettori has good prospects of landing the £75,000 ladbrokes.com Spring Cup on Rosencrans.

The Godolphin three-year-old has also spent the winter in Dubai, winning there two outings ago and finishing an excellent third in the UAE 2,000 Guineas on his latest outing three weeks ago. He should go well if the trip back to Britain has not unduly affected him.

Also worth noting at Lingfield is the speedy No Time, who is napped to win the £30,000 ladbrokes.com Sprint.

Sponsored by John Smith's, the Midlands Grand National promises to be a war of attrition over four and a quarter miles at Uttoxeter.

Lambourn trainer Nicky Henderson, seeking quick compensation after a largely disappointing Cheltenham meeting, has good prospects of lifting this valuable prize with Hersov, a winner first time out this season.

Subsequently a good fourth in a staying chase at Cheltenham, Hersov was below form on his latest start, at Sandown, but that race failed to put enough emphasis on stamina. There will be no problems in that department tomorrow.

Prolific winner Bathwick Annie can add to her scoresheet in the £30,000 Tattersalls (Ireland) Mares' Novices' Chase Final. Noel Fehily has the mount.
