HOW can English Heritage back a scheme to demolish the Barbican, which complements the ancient bar walls, to build a modern structure that will stand out like a sore thumb? (March, 12)

The flats would tower over and take away the beauty of York's bar walls which visitors come to walk and view our great city. All they are going to see are flats and hotels everywhere.

Mary Chapin Carpenter once said on stage at the Barbican: "How great it was to see York and the Barbican from the walls". She had walked them before her concert.

P. Bowness,
