EASINGWOLD celebrated winning the Leeper Hare York and District league division two title after beating Elvington 2-1 in a close encounter.

Ray Moulds opened the scoring for Elvington with a free-kick but Tim Jackson levelled and Richard Jennison held his nerve to score the winner from the spot.

Both Wilberfoss and Heslington dropped vital points in the race for the runners-up place as both were held to 2-2 draws.

League Junior Cup finalists Poppleton belied their lowly league placing to play the better football at Wilberfoss but the home side took the lead through Jon Parkin midway through the first half. Craig Theaker equalised within two minutes of the restart.

The game reached a dramatic finale as Robin Walker looked to have clinched the points for Wilberfoss with a goal in the 88th minute but Ben Janes grabbed a point-saving equaliser for Poppleton.

The point was not enough to move Poppleton off the bottom of the table as Huby won 2-1 at Moor Lane with a last-minute 25-yarder. Danny Yates had given Lane a first half lead.

Stillington entertained Heslington in a game neither side could afford to lose for different reasons.

The home side are only avoiding a relegation place on goal difference while Heslington are still in with a chance of the runners-up spot.

Steve Johnson struck twice for Stillington but Heslington responded with a Paul Dunn goal before Danny Walters' last-minute equaliser.

Fulford are not safe from the threat of relegation after losing to a Phil Goddard goal at Barmby Moor.

White Horse and Strensall kept the division three promotion race alive with wins at Heworth and Hemingbrough respectively.

John Williams gave White Horse the lead at Heworth but they only made sure of maximum points when he netted his second in the last minute.

Strensall fared much better at Hemingbrough despite going behind in the second minute when they conceded an own goal. Matthew Brown netted twice before the break and after the restart Tony Laird, Tony Mason and Mick Pipe struck to give them a 5-1 win.

Ben Azaduzi and Chris Hodgson (2) struck for Norton to send Rawcliffe Rangers home empty-handed, although Matt Fearn did manage one in reply.
