A MOTORCYCLISTS' group leader from York today expressed sympathy for the families of the three riders who were killed on North Yorkshire's roads over the Bank Holiday.

Debbie Molyneux, of York Motorcycle Action Group, said: "To get three in one weekend is just horrendous. There is no other way to describe it. The thoughts of all bikers are with their families."

Ms Molyneux appealed for all road users to work together to make North Yorkshire's highways a safer place.

She said: "Drivers of all vehicles have a joint responsibility. We need to look out for each other and take the maximum amount of care."

On Saturday, a biker was killed in a collision with a car on the A171 near Robin Hood's Bay, and on Monday another died in a crash involving a pick-up and cattle trailer near Blubberhouses, Harrogate.

Also on Monday a biker died when his machine exploded in a collision with a horse and cart on the Sherburn-in-Elmet bypass.

Police are appealing for witnesses to that crash, which happened at about 9.30pm, near the South Milford roundabout.
