Leeds United are shelling out £200,000 a week on six players they are struggling to offload.

With training due to restart tomorrow, Mark Viduka, Dominic Matteo, Danny Mills, Ian Harte, Michael Duberry and Stephen McPhail are still on the wage bill.

Viduka's talks with Middlesbrough are making slow progress.

Matteo has not yet reached agreement with Blackburn and has reported back early for training with Leeds.

Mills failed to strike a deal with Middlesbrough after spending most of last season on loan at the Riverside.

Harte rejected a move to Villarreal after talks with the Spaniards broke down.

Duberry's move to Wolves collapsed after the two clubs failed to agree on a wage-sharing scheme.

McPhail is due to discuss personal terms with Barnsley when he returns from honeymoon.

Alan Smith and Paul Robinson were sold to Manchester United and Tottenham, while David Batty, Jason Wilcox and Michael Bridges come off the wage bill when their contracts expire tomorrow.

Midfielders Jermaine Wright and Matthew Spring have been having medicals with a view to joining the influx of free transfer signings.

Greenwich-born Wright, 28, is set to join from Ipswich where he spent five years after spells with Millwall, Wolves, Doncaster and Crewe.

Harlow-born Spring, 24, has been with Luton since joining them as a trainee.
