SCARBOROUGH boss Nicky Henry has set his sights on Nationwide Conference success after bringing the Seadogs their first silverware for 12 years.

Scarborough won the North Riding Senior Cup as Robert Gill's first goal since signing from Doncaster ended Middlesbrough's two-year run as holders at the McCain Stadium on Saturday.

"I said to the lads afterwards that they had won a trophy, but the most important thing was to win one at the end of the season," said Henry.

The new boss has built arguably Scarborough's strongest squad for a number of years.

And while winning promotion back to the Football League will be a tough task, the Seadogs are warming up nicely for the new campaign.

"It was probably the worst we've played so far, but we've played four games, we're unbeaten and we've conceded only one goal.

"The form of Keith Gilroy, Robert Gill's first goal for us and the fact that we've won a trophy were the three positives for me," Henry added.

Scarborough went off the boil in the latter stages and needed goal-line clearances from Steve Baker and Ashley Lyth to prevent a young Middlesbrough side from forcing extra-time in Jeff Winter's last game as a referee.

But the home side were highly impressive before the break and should have been out of sight with chances coming thick and fast before Gill drilled home a ten-yard shot following Tony Hackworth's neat lay-off after 24 minutes.

Hackworth could have had a hat-trick in another eye-catching display and player-coach Neil Redfearn grazed a post with a long-range effort.

And the visitors were grateful to goalkeeper Ross Turnbull for keeping them in touch after the interval as he saved from ex-Boro winger Gilroy, Gill and Hackworth again.

Henry hopes winger David Pounder will start his first game for over a year at Grantham tomorrow night.
