YORK City finally got their hands on the £2million cheque that has secured their Bootham Crescent future before Saturday's friendly against Sheffield Wednesday.

Football Foundation officials visited York to make the historic presentation prior to the pre-season clash.

The money, obtained after almost year-long discussions, has enabled the football club to gain control of the Bootham Crescent Holdings company, previously owned by majority shareholder and former chairman Douglas Craig.

It means the football club cannot now be evicted from their home although it intends to relocate to a new stadium in the city by 2014 as part of the loan agreement.
