IS Simon Wiles living in the real world (August 11)?
There are many people in the city who would love to serve on the council - just look at the local elections and the number of candidates for each ward. I'm sure that if the pay was only £25,000 a year none of them would be deterred. I would willingly take on a council job for such a pittance.
Many people in the York area work 40 hour weeks for a take home pay of less than £12,000 a year. If the present council were paid on results I am sure they would end up owing us money.
