SALLY Fletcher's article, 'Land anger of city residents', (August 9), contained a quote from City of York Council to the effect that Knavesmire is owned by the "authority".
I was under the impression that Knavesmire is owned by the people of York and that the authority administered it on behalf of them.
The authority consists of elected councillors and staff employed by them.
They, personally, own nothing.
As far as the fencing is concerned, I think that we who use Knavesmire regularly are simply going to have to accept it as a permanent feature.
As a friend who works for the race committee pointed out: "Once they get their hands on something they never give it back".
