The Megajam Club will run a summer holiday music project in York next week.

Summer Soundwave is suitable for eight to 18 year olds keen to play in a band and perform on stage. Experienced musicians will help participants to write and perform in their band and will pass on tricks of the trade to ensure the new groups are in top shape to play at the finale at Fibbers caf bar, in Stonebow, on August 19 at 7.30pm.

The rock and pop workshops will take place at 10am to noon and 1pm to 3pm on August 16 to 19, and the bands are required to be at Fibbers from 6pm to 10.30pm on the last day.

Welcoming the Megajam Club to Fibbers, manager Tim Hornsby says: "Summer Soundwave will be a high anxiety/high adrenaline project that takes 24 inexperienced young musicians, throws them together into bands, in a kind of Big Brother style and then guides them through four days of intensive workshops and rehearsals. The big gig will be a melting pot of ideas and genres that will reflect the varied musical interests of the young people taking part."

A few places are still to be filled, and anyone interested should contact Megajam organiser Rob Parker on 01904 415069 or by e-mail: rob@megajamclub.com "Everyone taking part must be available for all the workshops and the performance," he says.

The cost is £25, concessions £15, with ten per cent off the full price for York Card holders.
