NEW Scarborough coach Nicky Henry couldn't have asked for a better start to his management career as the Seadogs opened their Nationwide Conference campaign with a 2-0 win over Woking.

The scoreline doesn't tell the whole story as Boro had to thank goalkeeper Leigh Walker for two splendid saves.

Henry said: "I was very pleased with the display, as we looked nice and strong as a unit and all the players did exactly what I wanted of them."

One man who did more than most was Keith Gilroy, who simply mesmerised the visiting defence with a peerless display of wing play.

He produced a string of crosses and was a constant danger to Woking who simply could not cope with him,

Tony Hackworth blasted in the first goal after Neil Redfearn and Gilroy had combined well and when Robert Gill was held back just on the stroke of half-time the game was effectively over when Redfearn rolled in the spot-kick.

When Scott Kerr was tripped in the second half, Redfearn went for the same spot but Adriano Basso produced a full length save to keep out the former Barnsley man's effort.

After one game it is far too early to think what the season may hold. However, Boro were well organised with a solid defence and there was a feeling that they may be difficult to beat.
