I WOULD have called this CD cynical had it been released around Hogmany rather than mid-summer.
Nevertheless, it is the CD version of a tin of shortbread with Greyfriar's Bobby printed on the top. Naff... certainly. Cheesy... absolutely. Kitsch... you bet.
The three CDs (with a whopping 75 tracks in total) are split into three themes: anthems, party and chillout. However, if you are expecting an anthology of popular Scottish music, you will be disappointed. Most of the songs are traditional, designed to stir the heart and puff the chest, or come from the music hall destined for merriment.
In the mix - or mish mash - you will find the Theme From Braveheart, the anthemic Caledonia and Amazing Grace alongside Donald Where's Your Troosers?, Campbeltown Loch and Stop Yer Tickling Jock. Besides Runrig, the Proclaimers are the only contemporary (-ish) act which make the final edit. One for grandpa Broon.
