RECORD breaker Danny Brough is a target for Super League giants Hull FC - but his focus remains with York City Knights.

Several top clubs are believed to be keeping an eye on the 21-year-old starlet, and the Evening Press understands that the Airlie Birds are heading the list.

However, the scrum-half is contracted to Huntington Stadium until the end of the year and any move will not happen during this term - leaving him to concentrate on helping the Knights win promotion from LHF Healthplan National League Two.

Furthermore, the Knights are set to offer a deal to keep him at Huntington Stadium beyond this year.

Knights chief executive Steve Ferres said: "There is speculation but there's bound to be interest in him - he's playing well again. There's more than one club looking at him.

"At the moment Danny will be definitely playing the season out with York City Knights. He's contracted to York until the end of the season and he's passionate about playing for the Knights and hopefully helping us to get into the First Division. That's what everybody is focusing on at the moment.

"If we win our next match at London Skolars (on Sunday), we're a step nearer to that and that is what we're concentrating on."

Brough broke Graham Steadman's York RL record for the number of points in a season when he scored 28 in the defeat of Dewsbury on Sunday to up his personal tally for the year to 344. He also equalled Vic Yorke's most goals in a season club record of 146 that day, with three more games of the regular season to go.

"Danny Brough will remain here until the end of the season and is totally focused on playing for York City Knights," added Ferres.

"He will be offered terms by us for next season - we will be keen to keep him. But if the deal was right and it progressed his career we would not stand in his or anybody else's way."

Meanwhile, the Knights are unlikely to strengthen their squad further before Friday's transfer cut-off point.

Ferres said: "It's unlikely we will get anybody before the deadline now. We will pretty much run with what we've got unless something changes dramatically before then and somebody becomes available.

"We've got a squad of 23 and the only one injured and likely to be out is Dean Andrews, so we're down to 22 but hopefully we will get through with that."

The Knights Supporters' Club will be holding a video night tomorrow in the Huntington Stadium bar, showing last week's victory at Swinton Lions on the big screen. Kick off is 7.30pm. Admission is free, but everyone will be expected to partake in the customary raffle.
