YAH yah voom will be the driving command fuelling Simon Dyson's return to competitive golf tomorrow.

The North Yorkshire ace, who is bidding to regain his European Tour card, is in the star-laced field for the BMW International Open in Germany.

While most attention will be focused on the seven remaining places up for grabs in the British and European Ryder Cup team, Dyson's principal target is to improve or at least maintain his current position in the Volvo Order Of Merit. Hence his VOOM with a view.

Currently the 26-year-old is in 8nd place in the Volvo rankings after tour earnings so far of around £140,000. The top 115 players at the end of the season in just over two months' time will automatically qualify for their European Tour card for 2005. It was at the tail end of last year that Dyson just missed out on a ranking and, after being shaded in the qualifying school, he lost the lucrative European Tour card he had held for four years.

But this season he has fought back brilliantly to be within touching distance of getting a grip on that prized place again, competing in a myriad of tournaments across Britain, Europe and Asia.

The top prize in tomorrow's BMW event at the Golfclub Munchen Nord Eichenried is £211,000 out of a total prize fund of £1,269,000.

A healthy finish after the four days of the tournament would significantly boost Dyson's Euro card prospects, who is also expected to be in the Omega European Masters in Switzerland in the first week of September.
