WITH four Yorkshire ECB Premier League matches remaining, York Cricket Club rest nine points adrift of leaders Sheffield Collegiate with Harrogate and Doncaster only a point or two behind the Clifton Parkers, writes Chris Houseman.

As eight points is the maximum win take, York cannot afford to stumble in their two Bank Holiday fixtures.

On Saturday, they travel to Hull who are second bottom, so captain Marcus Wood will entertain realistic hopes of bowling Hull out to get the full eight points, providing the weather allows.

Driffield then visit York on Monday and they were league leaders for a fair period early in the season and still stand fifth, but with only a theoretical chance of taking the title. However, they can have a considerable influence on the season's outcome as on Saturday they host Collegiate who, in turn, welcome Scarborough on Monday.

A further tantalising twist is that Harrogate visit Cleethorpes on Saturday without two leading players on suspension for disciplinary infringements. Cleethorpes were last season's champions and are this year's unluckiest team having had six matches abandoned because of bad weather.
