YORK City Knights ace Jim Elston has been named the LHF Healthplan National League Two Player of the Month for August in the latest edition of Rugby League World magazine.

Elston becomes the second Knights player this season to win a monthly award as voted for by the trade magazine, Austin Buchanan having topped the poll in June.

Knights coach Richard Agar was delighted for the 24-year-old. He said: "He's probably earned it. Our return to form coincided with Jim's return to fitness."

The Knights, who visit London Skolars on Sunday in the race for promotion, have beaten leaders Barrow, Gateshead, in-form Swinton and Dewsbury so far this month, with Elston starring throughout and scoring four tries in the process.

Agar added: "He adds a lot to us and he's done well all year from the bench, at hooker, loose-forward or wherever. He gives us a lot in terms of enthusiasm and he's a very coachable and likeable member of the squad."

The NL1 winner was veteran Rochdale forward Tommy Hodgkinson.
