TONY Cooper hit a 180 for 16 darts in York John Smith's Men's League division one as Sun 'A' beat second placed Clifton 'A' 6-3.

Chris Thompson gamed in 17 and teamed up with Cooper for a 26-dart pairs with Cooper yet again hitting 180 - his eighth of the season.

Leaders Shepherd 'A' beat Poacher 6-3 with Owen Legg hitting a 180 countering a 21 darter from Mark Gale.

Cygnet 'A's' John Mooring hit a 100 and three 140s while partnering Dave Gibbons to a 23-dart leg in the 5-4 win against Dringhouses. Gibbons and Dave Mason checked their individual matches in 21 darts.

Rich Plummer (18) set Crescent on the way to a 7-2 win over CueBall. Pete Turpin (21) and match winners Rob Platt-Kevin Upton nudged Golden Slipper to a 5-4 victory over Mitre whose John Pickering (21) played well.

A fantastic 149 finish from John O'Mara helped division two leaders Clifton 'B' defeat Rose & Crown 6-3. He was partnering Neil Hart for a 21-dart 701 which took the match after Hart finished his singles in 21. Graham Wilkinson bagged a 180 for Rose & Crown.

Keith Dodd-Mark Gamble took the decider for Slip Inn against Osbaldwick, whose Mark Watling (21) rescued the aggregate. Daz Hoban's victory set Britannia on the way to a 8-1 win at Flag 'A'.

In division three, Kev Graham and match winners M Wilson- Reed gave Fulfordgate the match points at St Clements, who saved the extra point with a wide margin win from Dave Cussons.

Steve Simpson (180) and Mick MacLeod led Bootham Tavern to a 6-3 win at Fox Inn. Kev Pallister starred as Green Tree beat Sun 'B' 7-2.

Champs Horse sign off in style

CHAMPIONS Bay Horse ended their York Phoenix Open League division one campaign with an emphatic 7-2 victory against Pack.

Rich Corner starred with an opening 18-darter before Allan Galley (22) sealed the win within the singles. Corner added a 106 pairs game finish in a 27 dart 701 leg, while Paul Cooper-Tom Hair weighed in with a 25-701 leg.

The battle for the runners-up spot went to Howden Arms, who defeated Volunteers Arms, whose Daz Gray gamed in 21. Mick Harris and Chris Wilson bagged 20 darts for Howden.

Phoenix players Jim Wallis (22) and John Smith (21) made it 3-3 after the singles against Cygnet before Smith-Mike Kearney secured the last game win. Jim Kelly-John Rolls were Woodman's match winners against Crescent.

Locomotive steamed to a 5-0 lead against Woolpack in division two with Mark Thornton closing in 19 darts. Despite the defeat, Woolpack finished as runners-up after Leeman failed to take advantage by losing 5-4 at home to Huntington 'A'.

Yearsley finished on a high with 5-4 success against Victoria Vaults. Yearsley led 4-0 but Vaults hit back before Alan Stevens-Stuart Cole wrapped up the win.

A fine 21 darter from Frank Cartin inspired division three champions Three Cranes to a 6-3 win at Edinburgh Arms. Meanwhile, Reindeer finished second after a 7-2 win at Indoor Bowls.

The closing date for entries for the winter season is Wednesday, September 1.
