WITH the casting vote of Lib Dem councillor Richard Moore, Burton Croft, the former home of JB Morell, has been condemned to destruction by the "demolition developers".
We have already lost the Ashcroft Hotel and The Vicarage in Lawrence Street with Laurens Manor now waiting in the wings.
They were all sacrificed for the land they stand on and, invariably, for development into flats.
It seems York's heritage and varying architecture is at great risk with the council unable or unwilling to protect this great city.
No one is against the development of flats where appropriate, but not to the extent of totally changing York and its historical value.
If the flats and apartments explosion continues at the present rate, York will probably be seeking a name change.
Sardine City would be appropriate.
