Last-gasp anguish denied North Yorkshire's leading amateur women's player Emma Duggleby from claiming the British Open Amateur stroke-play crown at Alwoodley.
The Malton and Norton Golf Club star was favourite to land the one national title to elude her grip in an illustrious career when on the penultimate hole she suffered a double bogey. She then dropped a shot on the 72nd hole to deny her going into a play-off, which was eventually won by Scotland's Clare Queen. Duggleby finsihed one shot behind on 295 (73 72 73 77). Naomi Edwards (Ganton) was on 305 (77 78 76 74) with club-mate Sarah Garbutt on 307 (77 78 77 75).
Dyson through
North Yorkshire's Simon Dyson beat the cut by one shot to be ten adrift of the leader in the BMW International Open in Munich. Dyson, who was two under after the first round, shot a two-over-par 74 in the second round.
