THE East Yorkshire Branch of the Inland Waterways Association organised a cruise from Ripon to Boston which took place during July and August.
The Five Great Churches Cruise stopped at Ripon, York, Selby, Lincoln and Boston, all via inland waterways.
Our aim was to encourage local residents and councils to make the most of their waterways and make people aware of the many miles of waterways in this country.
During our visit to York we were pleased to have had a visit from the Lord Mayor of York, Councillor Janet Looker, the Dean of York, Rev Keith Jones and Mrs Jones and Mr Richard Buckton who represented British Waterways. We were made very welcome in York, a feeling which continued throughout the two days of our visit when so many people looked round Jubilee, our inland waterways display narrowboat.
We thank the councillors who visited us, the saxophone band which entertained us, Dave Meigh of City of York Council who was so supportive and the people of York.
Barry Robins,
Branch chairman,
