IN response to the 'Use road sense' letter (August 31), I thought a knowledgeable person such as Mr Tessier would have known that red lights do not stop vehicles on the road or rail, only brakes do this.
Therefore, if, for whatever reason, they are not applied, someone could be hurt.
Some time ago, a schoolgirl in Blossom Street did exactly what Mr Tessier suggests one should do; and was hit by a motorist who did not stop at the red light.
She walked when the green man was shown but should also have looked both ways and made sure the traffic had stopped.
That is what all children should be taught to do.
