THE residents of the Straylands Grove area are rightly concerned about their estate becoming a rat- run when motorists try to avoid congestion caused by the increased traffic in the Monks Cross area.
Every time the city council introduce new traffic measures this leads to congestion and causes motorists to look for other routes.
If the only thing that the council can do is to introduce measures to stop motorists doing this, we then end up with more no-go areas than Belfast at the height of their troubles.
With the introduction of a new pedestrian crossing in Holgate Road, near the Fox Inn, we now have two sets of lights within 100 yards with two bus stops in between.
This causes congestion and leads to motorists using Hollybank and Hamilton Drive as a rat-run to Acomb.
Will we now have intelligent bollards at the top of Hollybank Hill?
When all of these restricted areas become private roads will the residents adopt them and pay for the upkeep?
