SETTRINGTON trainer John Quinn, who will be strongly represented in Saturday's Ayr Gold Cup by Fantasy Believer, is aiming to strike silver tomorrow with Cd Europe.

The £30,000 Totesport Silver Cup is designed as a compensation prize for those horses which fail to make the 28-strong cut in the Gold Cup. And Cd Europe, unable to get into the main contest, looks primed to make a sizeable bid in the secondary event.

Previously trained by Kevin Ryan, who did well with him, the gelding was recently transferred to Quinn and ran a fine second to Texas Gold on his first start for the Settrington handler at Goodwood last Sunday.

That race should have primed Cd Europe for this cavalry charge over the same distance of six furlongs.

A talented horse when things fall his way, he promises to run a huge race in advance of his new stablemate Fantasy Believer going for gold on Saturday, in a race in which he finished a close-up fourth 12 months ago.

Richard Fahey has high hopes that Fonthill Road, successful in his last two starts at York and Newmarket, can complete a hat-trick tomorrow, but Nap selection Cd Europe is marginally preferred to come out on top in a race which will be televised live on Channel 4.

Sundance, a winner at Ripon last time, should go well in the AON Consultancy Harry Rosebery Stakes over five furlongs.

Newmarket trainer Hugh Collingridge was waxing lyrical about this strapping colt after his latest success when he immidiately nominated this race as Sundance's next target. Jimmy Quinn continues his association with the juvenile.

At Newbury, the in-form Henry Candy could hold the key to the Duabi Duty Free Cup over seven furlongs with Rum Shot.

Unsuited by heavy ground at Deauville last time, Rum Shot had previously won a Listed race at Chester and had finished an excellent third to Chic in the Hungerford Stakes. A talented performer, he can come good again tomorrow.

Anyone who saw Merchant win at York last month will not be in a rush to dismiss him from calculations in the Haynes, Hanson And Clark Stakes.

Admittedly this will be a step up in class for Michael Bell's two-year-old, but the way he streaked clear of his toiling rivals in a nursery on Knavesmire stamped him as a high-class juvenile.

Already a three-times winner, he should go well for Richard Mullen, who rode two winners for Bell at Beverley yesterday.

Day Flight will only run in the Dubai Duty Free Arc Trial if there is sufficient give in the ground and, if the green light is guaranteed, punters should take note.

The three-year-old showed how effective he is on an easy surface at York back in May when running out a wide-margin winner of the Glasgow Stakes.
