KASABIAN are kicking British music up the backside. Whispers have turned into shouts that the new saviours of rock'n'roll have arrived in the form of this Leicester four-piece.

A storming Glastonbury set, and their status as new favourite band of everyone from The Prodigy to Robert Plant, fuelled an expectancy that has led to their debut album charting at number four this week.

Refreshingly, the record does not disappoint - although it may lack the all-consuming crossover appeal of, say, Oasis's Definitely Maybe. Thumping basslines and psychedelic electronica make the album sound more Primal Scream than Oasis, but the anger and swagger is all their own. Single Club Foot is a defiant dancefloor anthem, LSF (Lost Souls Forever) has a brilliant terrace-chant chorus, and Test Transmission launches the vibe space-wards. Stunning.
