THERE are better ways to remember Ray Charles, but this album of duets has its merits. While the great soul voice may have declined, there are moments to cherish.
Norah Jones gets matters going with a chilly and languid Here We Go Again. Diana Krall proves herself an easy match for Ray on You Don't Know Me, while Elton John is in robust voice on Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word. Two duets stand out: a sublimely eccentric It Was A Very Good Year with Willie Nelson, and, best of all, the rousing climax of Crazy Love with Van Morrison. Less successful is Over The Rainbow with Johnny Mathis, which deserves to be tossed over the furthest rainbow possible.
