Wigginton's next match is at Hallamshire.

The club, together with York, York RI and Next Generation, are supporting today's visit to York of England Squash's 'mini-squash' tour, which includes an inflatable court in St Sampson's Square.

All four clubs have received the England Squash Mini-Squash Centre award in recognition of their efforts to promote the sport by building links with local schools.

Copmanthorpe Primary School runs a Primary School Squash Club and is looking to gain 'Mini-Squash School' accreditation in the near future.

Joanna Shackleton, community leisure officer, City of York Council, said that to have four approved mini-squash centres in the area was fantastic.

She said: "We now need to persuade more children to use these great facilities so I am delighted to have this opportunity to promote mini-squash. I hope that those who come along to have a go on the inflatable court will enjoy it and be inspired to visit one of the local clubs to have another go."

To achieve national accreditation, clubs have to meet criteria that goes much further than providing the right equipment and facilities to enable mini-squash to be played on their site.

They must also offer mini-squash playing programmes for beginners, improvers and experienced players, hold annual competitions or open events at each of these levels and link up with at least two local primary schools to offer a minimum of one taster session per term to its pupils.
