Fulford 'A' started the new season in the York Conservative Clubs' Carlsberg UK Snooker League with a 7-0 victory over their 'B' team who did the double over them last season.

The winning team was Jeff Brown (20 break), Wayne Puleston, Richard Stroughair (22 break), Simon England, Wayne Hartley, Phil Oliver and Alan Reed.

Acomb 'A' had a comfortable 5-2 success over their 'B' team with wins by Paul Clark, Peter Lawson, Ian Gillies, Ernie Addinall and Trevor Ventress against replies from Steve Rodgers and Kevan Ventress.

Bootham 'A' defeated their 'B' team 4-3 with the help of last-minute reserves. Colin Robinson, Barry Rankin (30 break), Peter Mattinson and Nigel Thompson won for the 'A' team and Paul Mahoney, Fred Hough and Ian Robinson for the 'B' team.

Champions Heworth 'A' went 3-0 in front of their 'B' team through Steve Burdett, Keith Lawrence and Brian Shipley. However, the 'B' team then won the last four frames for a 4-3 success.

Chris Thompson gained the first point, then Brian Birch defeated Jason Milner, who only lost two games last season.

David Birch beat Kevin Gau and Mick Frampton overcame Clive Whyte to secure the win and halt the 'A' team's winning sequence of 19 matches. Their last defeat was 5-2 by Bootham 'A' in January 2003.

Fulford began the defence of their York Conservative Clubs' Faber Shield Billiards League crown with a 5-2 win over Bootham 'B'.

Richard Stroughair (29 break), John Anderson (20 break), Alan Reed, who won by two points, and Brian Bickerstaff won for Fulford. Bootham's winners were Tony Lambert and Paul Mahoney.

Bootham 'A' also won 5-2 against Acomb with successes by Colin Robinson (25 break), Ken Taylor, Barry Rankin (26 break) and John Darley. Ian Gillies and Peter Lawson gained Acomb's points.

Fulford continued their winning start with a 5-2 success against Bootham 'A' who were a player short. John Anderson, Brian Bickerstaff, Richard Stroughair (29, 38 breaks) and Phil Oliver (walk-over) gained the victory with replies by Colin Robinson and Ken Taylor (24, 28 breaks).

Acomb opened their winning account also by 5-2 against Bootham 'B'. Ian Gillies, Peter Lawson, John Ashwell and Paul Clark won for Acomb and Paul Mahoney and Ray Stamp for Bootham.

Defending champions Acomb started the York Conservative Clubs' Slater Cup Paris Snooker League with a 5-2 win over Heworth to extend their winning run to 16 matches.

Fulford, who finished bottom last season, won 5-2 against Bootham.
