PLAYER-MANAGER Chris Brass returned to the York City squad on Saturday after shaking off a back injury quicker than expected.

Intensive treatment on the strain picked up during the game against Leigh RMI has seen it heal ahead of time to the extent that Brass was looking to take the field at some point during today's clash.

The centre-half came through training yesterday unscathed and he was looking forward to being able to get involved again.

But the game has still come too early for captain Steve Davis, who will remain in the stands with his hip injury.

However, it is hoped he might be closer to fitness for Tuesday's trip to Morecambe.

Brass said: "Training went well and I don't think I had any reaction so I will be back in the squad. Steve also trained but he won't be ready to return just yet."
