MAY I add my support to those campaigning for the lights over the Nidd Skewkirk Bridge (September 23).
As a child living at Skewkirk Hall between Tockwith and Kirk Hammerton, I had to cycle over the bridge, or walk to school in Kirk Hammerton.
I spent many happy hours there. This must be a right of way for walkers, horse riders and cyclists. It always was and I was devastated when it was removed.
I have seen the Nidd burst its banks, and watched my father on horseback with hardly any horse showing above the floodwater, trying to rescue animals.
When the waters subsided, leaving just a pathway on the river bank, grocery people used to drive or cycle to the mill, then walk to our house to take orders for food from my mother.
This bridge must serve all members of the public.
Mrs L Graham,
The Chase,
Wetherby.
