Kevin Darley, who rode a double at Ayr yesterday, heads in the opposite direction tomorrow in search of winners and is likely to be rewarded on the opening day of the Newmarket meeting.

The Sheriff Hutton jockey renews his association with Paradise Isle in the £35,000 Christo Phillipson Boadecia Fillies' Stakes and is fancied to gain another victory on Chris Wall's smart sprinter.

Winner of two of her last three races - she can be excused her defeat at Chester in between because she was poorly drawn - Paradise Isle gained a fluent success over this course and distance a fortnight ago when defying top weight in a hot handicap.

A filly in form at this time of the year is a big plus. Paradise Isle is napped to add to Darley's scorecard tomorrow.

Settrington trainer John Quinn has more than a fighting chance to clinching the Thoroughbred Breeders Handicap with Caribbean Coral.

Robert Winston's mount, winner of two valuable handicaps in the summer, remains in good form on the evidence of his recent fourth at Epsom.

Quinn, coincidentally, won this race last year with Smart Predator, who narrowly beat Caribbean Coral, then trained by Chris Wall, into second. It would be nice for Quinn to do the double with his new recruit this time around.

Frankie Dettori, now 13 winners clear of Kieren Fallon, sidelined yesterday because of a fall at Leicester the previous day, looks to have some choice mounts at Newmarket.

Sundrop takes the eye in the £30,000 Lanwades Stud Severals Stakes.

Although not seen out since flopping in the Oaks in June, Sundrop is a class act, as she showed when narrowly beaten by Attraction in the 1,000 Guineas here on her seasonal reappearance. She would hardly need to reproduce that level of form to win this Listed event.

Dettori can also win the Robert Sangster Memorial Maiden Stakes on Desert Chief, likewise trained by Saeed Bin Suroor.

A good second at Newcastle on his debut last month, Desert Chief looks capable of further improvement and is fancied to run a big race.

A bumper prize is on offer in the £100,000 Tattersalls Autumn Auction Stakes and Sharplaw Star looks the one to be on.

The William Haggas-trained filly represents the classiest form in the race, having won two of her three starts and finished third, behind Damson and Soar, in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.

Also worth noting at HQ are recent winners Ringsider (2-15) and Red Affleck (4-35).

The funeral of Jimmy FitzGerald, one of Malton's leading trainers in the last 30 years, who died last week, takes place at St Mary's Chuch, Old Malton tomorrow at noon, followed by cremation at York Crematorium.
